The broad beans have grown on wonderfully and are now ready to be planted in the garden
This variety is ‘Aquadulce’ and they grow particularly well during the winter compared to other varieties. Sowing and planting them now means I get a very early crop in the spring at a time when not so many other crops bring fresh food
They are definitely worth trying during the autumn if you have a few gaps in the garden after the summer crops. They are particularly good at improving the amount of nitrogen in the soil. In adding more nitrogen to the soil than they need, the beans enrich the soil and they also eliminate any need for artificial fertilizers and this therefore means that they are a highly sustainable crop to grow
