Last year’s onion harvest was okay but not as good as the year before.
I grew 4 different types, namely:
Electric: the red ones. These weren’t very good at all – most went to seed.
Snowball: the white ones. These weren’t great either – a lot went to seed but not as bad as the red onions.
Senshuy: the brown ones. These were by far the best, happy with the crop.
Stuttgarter: These were still in the ground when I took this photo but these grew well and strong.
This shows the importance of experimenting with different onion varieties and accepting that not all harvests will be successful. After harvesting onions, leave them to dry and then move them indoors to the greenhouse/shed out of the rain and leave to dry further before storing them for winter.
