Orchids are from the Orchidaceae family.
I love this plant; the flowers bring a burst of color to the house between Christmas and Easter.
There are about 28 thousand different orchid species found in the world and it is the largest family of flowering plants.
The varieties we buy as houseplants are much larger than their native cousins which are found all over Wales in the spring and summer.
It is very important to feed home orchids when they are in bloom and place them in a well-lit area in your home, ideally on the sill of an east facing window.
