Welsh Ginger

After experimenting with growing ginger last year, I tried it again this year and I’m very happy with the crop. I grew this ginger in the greenhouse until mid-June and then in the garden since then.

One important lesson I’ve learned is to make sure I harvest it before November’s wet weather. Unfortunately, I lost half of the crop last year as the ginger had rotted in the soil.

All you need is a small piece of ginger root (from your local garden centre or supermarket), a 15 litre pot, compost and plenty of water during the summer.

I plan to dry this ginger so that it is ready to use over Christmas. I’ll try to keep a piece or two to grow new plants again next year.
