It’s almost August, 2021! Where does the time go? It has been a kind enough summer for the gardener after the hardest spring I remember. It’s strange how nature always finds the balance! There are still plenty of things to do in the garden and here are some of the things I will be up to over the next few days:
Watering the tomatoes regularly to avoid the risk of fruits splitting or rotting at the flower.
Potting up strawberry runners to create new plants for next year.
Cutting back the Feverfew and perennial flowers to try and encourage new flowers during September and October (important pollen and nectar for bees before winter).
Cut back the beans and harvest the rhubarb for the last time this year and then feed it by applying a good layer of compost mulch around all the crowns.
Enjoy the gardening!
