Marsh Orchid

My habitat is my heaven!

I love where we live and feel so lucky to be able to stroll through the fields at the back of the house. Every time, it never fails to amaze me how much wildlife and natural habitats we have on our doorstep.

One afternoon, the first Marsh Orchid of the season showed its bright purple / pink colours. The Latin name is Dactylorhiza praetermissa and they are members of the Orchid family.

These fields are registered as a Site of Special Scientific Interest by the European Union. In this heath moorland, the diversity of native flowers is striking as well as an abundance of different plant species.

I am truly in my element when I’m exploring these fields!
