The romanesco broccoli are ready for harvest This is my second year growing them now and they’ve grown a lot better this year than last year
The three most important things I’ve learned from growing them are:
1) They are very hungry plants – I have planted these straight into the soil with fresh, uncomposted chicken manure and instead of burning like other plants they are thriving and loving the nitrogen!
2) They need plenty of room to grow! I’ve planted these far too close together. Leave a gap of at least 50cm between each plant!
3) ‘Cabbage white’ caterpillars do not like their leaves as much as other cabbage plants and therefore they tend to have more peace
I’m looking forward to cooking this now
