Runner beans

It has been a season of two halves for the runner beans this year. The first half with the great drought and heat of June and July slowed down the plants considerably and brought early crops of small beans that resembled sickles rather than the traditional and common long pods!

And the second half? Well from August onwards, it was touch and go with the (rare) showers offering them at least a new opportunity! By now the crops are yielding heavy and the plants are still flowering and creating new beans. But… don’t be fooled by the September dew! The ground is still very dry, so water and harvest every chance you get!
