The vegetables we grow at home may not always look perfect or be acceptable to be listed in a catalogue but one thing’s for sure, their taste will be one hundred times better!
Unfortunately, we now expect the food we buy to look perfect without any blemishes. Our expectations of what is standard or acceptable have changed so much over the years. The result of this is wastage of good food on a catastrophic scale!
This is my last crop of swede that has been harvested and as you can see some of them are full of small holes and marks but with a small amount of washing and chopping off bad bits they will be perfect and delicious to eat.
So please don’t be afraid of food that looks a little different or mishapen – the taste is the best bit anyway!
